Michael League: The Snarkiest Puppy Perseveres!

He is a bassist, producer, collaborator, entrepreneur, label owner, recording artist, musical director, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and… light-bulb changer!

As the founder and bandleader of Snarky Puppy, Michael League has carried the torch of world music – jazz fusion maestros such as Joe Zawinul, Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, and Manu Dibango into the 21st Century, among others, with astounding success.

Massively popular, the rotating collective dubbed Snarky Puppy has garnered multiple Grammy Awards, toured the planet several times over, hosted festivals, and has navigated the treacherous waters of the music business in the present tense via independent labels, streaming events, and social media, to cite a few endeavors.

However, League is much more than Snarky Puppy. He continues his music education which currently has him exploring African instruments and formats. He’s also an in-demand producer (ask David Crosby) and his critically acclaimed debut solo album Right Where I Fall arrived in June 2021.

From his home in Spain during Covid lockdown, Michael traversed many topics, including is ongoing musical evolution, the benefits of music education, and practical advice for playersin the modern age.
